The “Collect Her” episode of The Powerpuff Girls essentially predicted Brony culture which is funny because My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic was created by Lauren Faust who was an artist/writer/director for The Powerpuff Girls

holy shit

Note that the fan was the villain of the episode but that Faust has gone out of her way to defend bronies even by the time they drew highly misogynist porn of her self-insert OC.

There’s a lesson in there. Somewhere. That may or may not have to do with Faust.

Like the villain of the episode, who trapped and kidnapped the girls to keep them all to himself, Bronies have to a large degree stolen the current generation of MLP from its original target audience by spamming the internet with child-unsafe mlp fan content, swamping appearances by creators and cast members with sketchy adults such that parents feel unsafe with their children there, and noisily attracting so much attention to themselves that it has distorted the nature of the show itself and especially its marketing.  ie, the MLP comic book, that is very much ‘by bronies for bronies’, an adult minded parody of the show’s characters rather than an adaptation that remains true to the style, spirit, or all ages nature of the source material.

And as it has grown in influence, we’ve seen insensate brony screeching change from ‘its not just for little girls’ to ‘its not for little girls at all’.  We’ve also seen vicious, ugly, herd-mindset attacks on anyone within the fandom who dares to question the way the brony herd behaves at all, up to and including death and rape threats directed at said critics.  Far from being a ‘few bad apples’ situation, we’ve seen brony musicians making death and rape threats within their music go on to be invited to perform at brony conventions specifically because of how well received their hatred and bile proved to be within the community.

Maybe Faust shouldn’t have been so supporting of the Brony community to begin with, and maybe show creators shouldn’t have gone out of their way to include explicit nods to them in the show and the marketing.  After all, bronies already liked the show and purchased the merchandise, pandering to them and encouraging them didn’t widen the show’s appeal.  Rather it just seems to have driven them to heightened levels of obnoxiousness and entitled possessiveness, and if anything they’ve in turn narrowed the show’s appeal.  They’ve certainly badly subverted its message, bringing a heavy dose of misogyny to the fandom of a show that was directed with all love and earnestness at young girls, and in doing so have brought down a cloud of ugliness and cynicism on what was so refreshing and engaging to begin with specifically for its openness and sincerity.

I got to “Like the villain of the episode, who trapped and kidnapped the girls to keep them all to himself” and then I decided I like malisteen.

ok, this is my rarity cosplay and here’s an explanation of why i’m pretty much done cosplaying as ponies (after colossalcon)
i was hanging out with a group of homestucks, and we were just having fun just talking and some guy with one of those kandi face mask things (the beads?? i think that’s the name) came up, gave me a hug without my permission, and tried to kiss my cheek
i was hanging out with a friend of a friend and i was complaining about being sexually harassed, and he said “out of all the ponies to cosplay as, you chose rarity. you’re asking for it.” needless to say, i left as fast as i could. i didn’t even care about being all alone, i didn’t want to be near someone saying that i was asking for sexual harassment
i was hanging out with my friends natalie and christen and some guy came up to me and grabbed my hands and expressed his love to me (note i don’t know him and he was most likely drunk) and his friend (probably the driver i guess) had to drag him away.
the same guy in number two found me when i was about to go down the stairs when my friend christen was halfway down them, he hugged me without my permission and started taking me with him. i was screaming out for help and his friends quickly took him away so he wouldn’t get in trouble
so yeah, if anyone ever asks me why i hate the brony fandom, i will direct them to this post. i know people have had a lot worse harassment, but any form of sexual harassment is not ok.

if you’re a female at a convention, you’re gonna have a bad timeif you’re a female dressed up at a convention, you’re gonna have an even worse timeif you’re dressed up as a character that could be seen as provocative, even by only its fans, YOU’RE GONNA HAVE A BAD TIMEif you choose to place yourself in the spotlight, whether you intend on coming across as provocative or not, don’t complain when you get the attention… either learn how to cope with your audience at conventions or stop dressing up, because these people expect you to be open and friendly and play along with the role you choseseriously i bet most of these guys were halfway decent but just socially awkward and wanted to show you appreciation for your costume and for the character, but instead you basically screamed rape and shamed them on tumblr for everyone to seenot to mention YOU’RE BLAMING AN ENTIRE FANDOM for the actions of like three people, i don’t even have to say anything else about thatand every fourteen year old “feminist” is going to reblog this in agreement without realizing the facts: IF YOU PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE, YOU’RE GONNA HAVE A BAD TIME… if you deny this fact, you are clearly unfamiliar with how the real world works and should grow up a little before acting like you can tackle adult topics lol/rant

IT SHOULDN’T MATTER WHAT CHARACTER I COSPLAY AS
IT SHOULDN’T MATTER IF THE CHARACTER IS SEEN SEXUALLY
IT SHOULDN’T MATTER IF I’M AT A CONVENTION
IT SHOULDN’T MATTER IF I’M IN COSPLAY
IT SHOULDN’T MATTER IF I HAVE A VAGINA, NO!!!! ONE!!!!!! IS!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!!! ASKING!!!!!!!! FOR!!!!!!!! SEXUAL!!!!!!! HARASSMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes there were some nice people that ASKED for hugs and ASKED for pictures, but THESE PEOPLE DID NOT ASK, THEY DID NOT HAVE CONSENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would NEVER make a person seem worse than they are, that is just immature and rude!
AND ALSO THERE IS A FUCKING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BRONIES AND MY LITTLE PONY FANS, IN MY POINT OF VIEW BRONIES ARE PEOPLE THAT THINK THIS SHIT IS OK AND MLP FANS ARE PEOPLE THAT ENJOY THE SHOW I LOVE MLP FANS I HATE!!!!!!!!! BRONIES!!!!!!!

As someone who identifies as both a bronie, and a reasonably good person, please don’t lump in rude, physically intrusive and generally filthy people with ANY fandom or group as they’re present in equal measure in pretty much all of them.
And to people who think this(unwanted physical contact) is okay…please stop giving a group of people who are already sort of viewed pretty negatively an even worse name. Thank you

NO ONE IS EVER ASKING TO BE ASSAULTED.
COSPLAY IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO ASSAULT SOMEONE.
COSPLAY IS NOT ASKING TO BE ASSAULTED.
IF YOU TOUCH A COSPLAYER WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION, YOU ARE A SCUM BAG.

Bronies, ladies and gentlemen! The worst of the worst.

Not all bronies are assholes. Yeah some are but they don’t represent all of them.
Every fandom has its assholes, you shouldn’t generaliz an entire group based on the actions of a few assholes.
Do not touch a cosplayer if they didn’t say so
Do not be creepy/make sexual passes at a cosplayer without consent
Don’t assume, just because you think a character is sexy, provocative, slutty or whatever, that the person playing that character is alright being seen that way.
Don’t ruin it for the rest of your non-creepy fandom mates and don’t ruin the experience of the con for the cosplayer.

Well, there’s Bronies, and then there’s MLP fans. There’s a huge cultural difference between the two.
Having personally been around bronies in both the early days of the show as well as recently, and having watched a lot of bullshit go on, yeah, bronies are by and large fucking assholes. That isn’t to say that decent Bronies don’t exist- They definitely do- but they’re horribly uncommon or completely overshadowed by the other assholes calling themselves Bronies.
MLP fans, though? They’re a great bunch and it’s a shame that they’re practically invisible compared to a group of 20-30 year old neckbeards that completely ignore the message of a show primarily targeted at children and bitch when it doesn’t meet their fucked-up expectations. Not to mention the rampant misogyny and sexual harassment.
If someone says Bronies aren’t all bad and says to give bronies a second chance- No, I’ve given them second chances. Many of the people trashing Bronies have done the same. How about you stop doing damage control and actually nut up and try to police your damn fandom. You know their behaviour is unacceptable but almost never do I see the people saying this actually trying to change that. If you actually are trying to change things- More power to you. But if you’re whining about how people generalize bronies without actually trying to do something to change the “false perceptions” you’re complaining about, I have no respect for you.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SAY TO EVERYONE WHO HAS BLAMED ME FOR HATING A BIG GROUP OF PEOPLE LIKE OBVIOUSLY I LIKE MLP IF I COSPLAYED AS IT??????????? YEAH

I’m a brony. If I see a cosplay, I’m gonna hug them. Plane and simple.I did a fem! Austria and had severial people hug me with out permission. And in no way was my outfit or character choice provocative. So either quit cosplaying cause you’re uncomfortable with affection from people who obviously were showing their respect to you’re cosplay or SUCK IT UP AND TAKE BACK ALL The NASTY COMMENTS.Thank you.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT IS NOT AFFECTION
SEXUAL HARASSMENT IS NOT AFFECTION
SEXUAL HARASSMENT IS NOT FUCKING AFFECTION
ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS RIGHT NOW DO YOU REALLY THINK SOMEONE TRYING TO TAKE YOU AWAY FROM YOUR FRIEND IS AFFECTION???????!!!!!!!!!
AND YOU’RE PLACING SOMEONE’S OPINION ON A FANDOM ABOVE THEIR WELL-BEING. yes, i did receive a bunch of comments saying “i’m so sorry but not all bronies are like that!” and those are ok!! because they put what happened to me above me hating bronies (NOT MLP FANS THEY’RE DIFFERENT) and YES I FUCKING KNOW I CALL THEM MLP FANS NOT BRONIES FOR A REASON YOU REALLY FUCKING THINK I DON’T KNOW THAT I FUCKING COSPLAYED AS A PONY SO OBVIOUSLY I KNOW WHAT THE FANDOM IS LIKE JESUS FUCKING CHRIST

This is why I hate Bronies, whether they are “nice” or not.
Nut up and try to change the fandom, or I, and many many others, will continue to tar you with the brush that ALL Bronies are disgusting asswipes.

BRONIES: If they’re not grabbing your tits at a con, they’re defending the rights of OTHER Bronies to grab your tits at a con, or trying to play it down, or telling you to stop getting upset about it.

just a reminder

if you think that “masculine things” can be “gender-neutral” but that “feminine things” cannot be “gender-neutral” you need to pause and think a bit harder.

i.e., everyone being “bronies” but only women being “pegasisters”

do you ever just sit around and think about how gross it is that a bunch of men took a show made for young girls, that taught them great lessons, that femininity isnt weak, the importance of girl-girl friendships, and made it all about them, their sexual fantasies, and their political theories?

“We’re not all like that!!”

notesonascandal:

I am so sick of that response.

Why is it when the bullshit that people who are like you is called out, your first reaction is to holler about “we’re not all like that”??

This tells me a couple things:

  • You acknowledge that these bullshit behavior/systems exists
  • You acknowledge that people who are like you engage in the bullshit behaviors/systems
  • You are MORE concerned about not being seen as one of the perpetrators than you are with the pain, oppression, injustices and hurts suffered by the victims/survivors of the bullshit behaviors/systems.

So, all of this leads me to believe that you aren’t that concerned about righting wrongs. Because you could at least speak up and speak out about it if you did. Using the same breath you used to deny any culpability.

If you’re not “like that” but do nothing about it, you are EXACTLY like that.

This was a great episode, and I didn’t even notice the appearance Bronies are gloating about, and I was actually looking for it.  It was that insignificant.

How sad their lives must be that despite being completely obsessed with a show about love, friendship, respect, and  pony princesses, they simply cannot internalize any of those values and are instead dead-set on trying to turn it into something ugly and hateful.  The more I think about it, the more sorry I feel for them.  The answer to their insecurity and despair is right in front of their faces and they can’t take the hint.

Look at your life, look at your choices, hateful Bronies.  Maybe there’s still a chance to save yourselves.

Why MLP Tales is not G2

rikakitty:

Okay, so I’ve noticed a recent trend among bronies of thinking that the show My Little Pony Tales is G2 when it is in fact G1. Since I am a huge pony nerd and a G2 collector, this annoys me greatly. So since we all know bronies are terribly stubborn, I’ve compiled a couple reasons why Tales is a G1 series instead of G2, which never even got a cartoon. I’m terrible at writing and this came out kind of long so bear with me here.

You don’t. People don’t have to be involved in a fanbase to enjoy something. Otherwise, you’d HAVE!1 to be in a fanbase for every single grocery you like and that would be tiresome.
